An Ode to the Slice: Celebrating National Pizza Day

BY JACKIE FENDER for WEEKLY VOLCANO 2/6/26 |

Not that anyone really needs an excuse, I surely do not, but if you’re looking for one, February 9 is National Pizza Day.

Pizza is the perfect food. It’s built for sharing with friends and loved ones, but it’s just as satisfying solo, whether you’re grabbing a slice on the go or committing fully to a personal pie. It works for celebrations and for quiet nights in. You can nosh on it fresh out of the oven, blistered and bubbling, or sneak a chilled slice straight from the fridge the next morning and still feel like you’ve made a great decision. Few foods are that forgiving, that versatile, or that universally loved.

With no shortage of hot spots to snag a slice in Tacoma and beyond, narrowing things down was no easy task. From classic styles to creative spins, neighborhood joints to date-night destinations, the pizza scene here is deep and delicious. We whittled the list down to a few of our favorites that hit different moods, budgets, and cravings.

In a perfect world, Super Bowl Sunday would land on National Pizza Day, but alas, that just means you get to extend the celebration, or feed your feels, depending on how the game goes.

The variety of spots listed here check a lot of different boxes. Places that can serve as a cozy date night paired with creative craft cocktails, a family outing where everyone finds something they like, a quick lunch-hour pit stop, or a casual night out for karaoke or catching the big game. However you celebrate, there’s a slice waiting for you.

Bar Rosa
Tasty cocktails, Italian wines, and wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizza come together at Bar Rosa, making it an easy choice for a night that feels a little elevated without trying too hard. The pizzas and cocktails are adventurous without being too esoteric, approachable enough for traditionalists, and interesting enough for those looking to branch out. It’s the kind of place where you linger, order another drink, and debate whether one more pie is truly necessary. It is.
1202 S. 11th St., Tacoma.

Camp Colvos Brewing and Pizza Co.
Another great spot that knocks the traditional out of the park while still having fun with it. Camp Colvos balances creativity and comfort with ease, making it ideal for groups with varied tastes. Don’t sleep on the sammies either. The Muffaletta and Chicken Parm are standouts that hold their own alongside the pizza. Add in excellent patio seating, and you’ve got a place that works year-round but really shines when the weather cooperates.
2104 Commerce St., Tacoma.

Parky’s Pizza
Each pizza at Parky’s is hand-crafted using five-day cold-fermented dough and two forms of mozzarella, delivering the absolute best bite, every bite. The attention to technique shows, but the vibe stays relaxed. In addition to pizza, they serve pressed paninis and loads of fresh salads, making this a solid option for mixed groups. Free pool and a full bar round out the casual atmosphere, anchored by a pizza pie y’all are sleeping on.
3551 McKinley Ave., Tacoma.

Puget Sound Pizza
Good vibes and classic favorites done right are the name of the game here, alongside funky fresh pies, sandwiches, calzones, and pasta. The Tacoma location has long been a staple, beloved for consistency and comfort, and you can now also find them in the old Pizza Casa digs in Lakewood (RIP). Whether you’re a creature of habit or feeling adventurous, Puget Sound Pizza delivers reliable satisfaction.
Tacoma: 317 S. 7th St., Tacoma.
Lakewood: 12924 Pacific Hwy. SW, Lakewood.

Tacoma Pie
They say, “Our pies are a mash up of many styles, namely Sicilian, Grandma, and Detroit styles,” and that description alone is enough to draw in anyone craving a deeper, heartier slice. This is the go-to for those looking for thick, square-cut comfort. A full bar, pinball machines, and rotating local art on the walls give the space extra character and make it easy to turn dinner into an evening.
4417 6th Ave., Tacoma.

Salamone’s Pizza
When the craving is classic New York-style pizza by the slice, Salamone answers the call. Simple, straightforward, and satisfying, it’s a great stop for a quick bite or a no-frills pizza fix. Their sister store, Slice Garden, can be found in Fircrest, spreading the love just a little farther.
Tacoma: 24 N. Tacoma Ave., Tacoma.
Fircrest: 1039 Regents Blvd., Fircrest.

Fat Zach’s
Wood-fired pizza with locations in Puyallup, Sumner, and South Hill makes Fat Zach’s a dependable favorite no matter which side of town you’re on. Consistent, comforting, and crowd-pleasing, it’s the kind of place that becomes part of your regular rotation.
621 5th St. SW, Puyallup.
2160 136th Ave. E, Sumner.
10219 132nd St. E, Puyallup.

Honorable mentions include The Cloverleaf, State Street, Farrelli’s, E9, Abella Pizzeria, Wicked Pie Pizza, Spud’s Pizza Parlor, and surely others we’re forgetting. There’s truly no shortage of places to snag a slice. The encouragement of the day? Celebrate World Pizza Day with a savory pie or slice while humming “That’s Amore” like you mean it.
