Originally from Santa Cruz, CA, Mary E. Smith moved to the Puget Sound area with her parents when the toll was on the old Narrows Bridge. She’s now lived in the region for 50 years, and though she raised her two kids in the woods of Gig Harbor, she now enjoys a beautiful water view of Commencement Bay. A Senior Graphic Designer, illustrator, and City of Tacoma mural artist, Mary has a rich background that includes structural building design, mechanical drafting, custom home building, and even working as a grocery checker. What she loves most about the greater Tacoma area are the friendly people, scenic parks, panoramic views, the ever-present mountain, and the vibrant arts scene—especially the murals. Tacoma’s diverse culture and supportive communities continue to inspire and connect her to the city she loves.
