Weekly Volcano Fair Concert Favorites: Six Nights of Music and Memories

BY NAJAH MONIQUE TODD for WEEKLY VOLCANO 8/29/25 |

I’m Najah Monique Todd, though in the music world I go by Najamoniq. As a former member of the band Mirrorgloss and current solo artist, I’ve spent years performing, creating, and celebrating the way music brings people together. For me, summer has always meant long nights filled with live shows, festivals, and moments where music turns into memory. Now, as both an artist and a new mom to a 5-year-old, I find myself cherishing those moments of joy and connection more than ever. That same spirit of rhythm, community, and celebration is exactly what makes the Washington State Fair such a special tradition every year.

As a performer, I know the kind of magic that happens when an audience and artist meet in the same moment—the fair has a way of turning those sparks into memories that last long after the lights fade. There’s something about summer concerts here: the warm nights, the open air, and the music drifting across the fairgrounds, pulling you in. This year’s lineup captures that feeling perfectly, with a mix of legendary acts, fresh voices, family fun, soulful connection, and flat-out good times.

This year, I’m sharing my top six picks from the lineup, and trust me, each one delivers a different flavor of fun.

1. TOTO (with Christopher Cross + Men at Work)
Kick things off on August 29 with a triple bill that feels like pure music history. TOTO brings legendary anthems like “Africa” and “Hold the Line,” Christopher Cross sets the mood with smooth yacht-rock gems, and Men at Work will take you straight back to the ’80s with their nostalgic energy. It’s a timeless combo that proves great music only gets better with age.

2. KIDZ BOP Live (Certified BOP Tour)
On September 10, the fair transforms into the ultimate family dance party. KIDZ BOP brings kid-friendly versions of today’s biggest hits, complete with choreography, lights, and nonstop energy. As a new mom of a 5-year-old superstar (we recently adopted), I know firsthand how magical it is to see kids light up when the music hits. This show isn’t just fun for the little ones—it’s a chance for families to dance, sing, and make those core memories together. Whether you’ve got kids or just want to unleash your inner child, this one’s a guaranteed good time.

3. Khalid (featuring flowerovlove)
R&B powerhouse Khalid takes the stage on September 11, and his smooth vocals are going to wash over the crowd like a summer night breeze. He’s joined by rising star flowerovlove, whose style and sound bring a fresh, fashion-forward edge to the evening. Expect soulful vibes, heartfelt lyrics, and the kind of music that sticks with you long after the lights go down.

4. Ludacris (with Slick Rick)
Fairgrounds, get ready to turn up on September 13. Ludacris brings hit after hit, laced with his trademark charisma and wit. Add hip-hop legend Slick Rick—one of the greatest storytellers in the genre—and you’ve got a show that’s pure fire for rap lovers and music fans alike.

5. T-Pain (with DJ Montay)
On September 19, it’s time to sing, sway, and maybe even karaoke your heart out. T-Pain, the king of Auto-Tune and feel-good party jams, joins forces with DJ Montay to deliver a night of infectious beats and unforgettable hooks. If you’re looking for a high-energy evening to let loose, this is your jam.

6. Joel McHale (with Kelsey Cook + Susan Jones)
Close out the series on September 20 with some big laughs. Joel McHale, known for Community and The Soup, brings his sharp wit and playful snark to the stage. With hilarious openers Kelsey Cook and Susan Jones, it’s a comedy lineup that promises belly laughs, roasting, and maybe even a little improv magic.

Each act in this lineup brings its own spark—nostalgia, family fun, soulful connection, swag, party energy, and plenty of laughter. Woven together, they create more than just a concert series; they create a soundtrack to summer. The Washington State Fair only comes once a year, but the memories made here are what carry us through until the next stage lights come on.
