Hi Guys! I hope this letter finds you well! I wanted to let you know that the big goal I am working toward, and the reason why I am tap dancing and doing all these special events like the T-Shirt Promotion with Shroom Brothers, the Small Business Luncheon with the Mayoral Candidates and the Newspaper Box Challenge at Art on the Ave and etc is because Weekly Volcano wants to become one of Tacoma’s newspapers of record. If we can achieve this, it will pay for the newspaper costs regardless if we have enough advertising income! We need stability and predictable income and this is the best way to achieve that. That’s why I am putting in so many hours and doing all these fundraisers. This is how we save Weekly Volcano!
Here is our progress report:
1) We have to print weekly for at least 6 months which we will hopefully achieve by November but we need advertisers and sponsors to sustain us so every ad helps! I am still looking for a sponsor for the ART section. Its $1K per month and has lots of value. If you’re interested email me at Advertising@Weekly-Volcano.com.
2) We have to have an office in Tacoma which we now have at Court House Square.
3, We have to have 50% of our circulation in paid subscriptions. This one we are only just beginning to work on. I wasn’t sure how to approach it because I had to find a way to financially make that affordable to the subscribers and I finally found it! Beginning in August we will be able to mail you a copy of weekly volcano once a week for just $22.75 per month! That is roughly $5 per issue! You can also help us by voting for your favorite box in the Weekly Volcano Newspaper Box Challenge! We will be displaying 37 newspaper boxes hand-painted by local artists at Art on the Ave Sunday July 20th from noon to 7 pm. Then the boxes will be on display in the lobby of Court House Square at 1102 A St. Tacoma WA 98402 until August 21st, which is the Third Thursday in August. That will be a great night for a party because its also Art Walk night so we have an artist reception and award ceremony for the boxes with the most votes in the ballroom at Court House Square on the 4th Floor.
You can check out the boxes on our website. I am updating each artist page as soon I get the photos of the finished boxes and you can vote online. Artists get 50% of the net donations and the rest goes toward funding our efforts to become a newspaper of record in Tacoma.
