I’m an avowed Mexican food junkie. I’ve learned the best Mexican food often comes from the hands of people who are making it for you as if you’re family.
That was the case when I visited La Perla Taqueria recently and ordered three chicken tacos. The platter was adorned with crisp cucumbers and onions alongside a fat grilled jalapeño that made my smiling face numb. The tacos were solid: perfectly seasoned, tasty tortillas.
The real star of the show was the salsa verde. It was the perfect consistency, not too runny and not too thick, and delivered a surprising kick for a salsa verde. I’m getting the shakes just thinking about how satisfying that salsa verde tasted and how savory those above-average street tacos were, leaving me smacking my lips for more.
Other tempting menu items included a Hawaiian torta and quesabirrias. I am looking forward to going back. Next time, I’ll ask for more salsa.
The La Perla Taqueria truck is located at 8235 S. Hosmer St. in the parking lot of the 76 station. There are a couple of picnic tables, the service is quick, and the people who make the food are super friendly.
