Movies of the Week in Tacoma – 10/30 to 11/5

BY JACK CAMERON for WEEKLY VOLCANO | 10/30/2026

The Blue Mouse has an all new version of “Sense and Sensibility.” But if you ask me, the exciting thing is that on Halloween you could see three Tim Curry movies on the big screen. The Grand is playing “Muppet Treasure Island” and “Legend.” And the Blue Mouse has “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” We may have lost Tim Curry this year, but his movies are forever.

The Blue Mouse Theatre – 2611 North Proctor

“Sense and Sensibility” – Oct. 30 – Nov. 1 at 3:45 p.m., 7 p.m. Nov. 2 at 7 p.m.

Jane Austen remains as popular as she was 100 years ago. You’ve likely seen at least one of the “Sense and Sensibility” adaptations over the years. This one differentiates itself by focusing on the relationship of the Dashwood sisters. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, Esmé Creed-Miles, Caitríona Balfe and directed by Georgia Oakley from a Diana Reid screenplay, early reviews say this is a worthy successor to previous adaptations and distinguishes itself as a unique adaptation of a timeless classic.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” – Oct. 31 at 10:30 p.m.

What better way to close out Halloween than a late night show at the Blue Mouse of the anarchic musical classic “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Tim Curry absolutely eats the scenery in this fun and ridiculous film. If you’ve never gone to one of these screenings, you’re missing out on a cultural touchstone that has lasted decades. Participation and dressing up are highly encouraged.

The Grand Tacoma Cinema – 606 Fawcett Avenue

“Wicker” – Oct. 30 at 12 p.m., 2:20 p.m., 4:40 p.m., 7 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 11:45 a.m., 2:10 p.m., 4:40 p.m., 7:10 p.m.; Nov. 1 at 12 p.m., 2:20 p.m., 4:40 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 2 at 1:45 p.m., 5 p.m., 7:40 p.m.; Nov. 3 at 1:35 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 4 -5 at 1:45 p.m., 4:40 p.m., 7:30 p.m.

A comedic fable about a woman played by Olivia Colman who commissions the local basketmaker (played by Peter Dinklage) to build her a husband made of wicker, played by Alexander Skarsgård. This promises to be a romantic and odd movie. I’m looking forward to seeing it.

“The Only Living Pickpocket in New York” – Oct. 30 at 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:25 p.m., 5:30 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 12 p.m., 5:10 p.m., 7:20 p.m.; Nov. 1 at 12:10 p.m., 2:10 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 7:40 p.m.; Nov. 2 at 1:15 p.m., 3:20 p.m., 5:20 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m.; Nov 4-5 at 1:25 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5:35 p.m., 7:40 p.m.

If I told you only the title of this movie and that many critics are saying that both John Turturro and Steve Buscemi may finally get those Oscars they deserve with this movie, that alone should be enough to get you in the theater. In fact, I can’t think of anything better to say. Go see it.

“Ken Russell’s The Devils” – NC-17 – Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 at 7:15 p.m.

Touted as one of the most controversial films ever made, Ken Russell’s “The Devils” pushes the bounds of cinema. This is definitely not a movie for everyone. Rated NC-17 and containing multiple scenes with strobe effects that may impact those with photosensitive epilepsy. Tickets are going very fast for this one. Both screenings are almost sold out.

“Muppet Treasure Island” – Oct. 31 at 2 p.m.

We lost Tim Curry this year and if you’re a fan, I can think of no better way to spend it than at the Grand watching two of his best. Few people can work as effortlessly with Muppets the way Tim Curry could. “Muppet Treasure Island” is one of those movies where all I have to do is tell you the premise and you get it. What else are you going to do on Halloween weekend?

“Legend” – Oct. 31 at 4:20 p.m.

Scheduled directly after “Muppet Treasure Island,” “Legend” stars Tom Cruise and Mia Sara, but who cares, the reason to watch “Legend” is that Tim Curry plays the best Devil in cinema history in Ridley Scott’s fantasy masterpiece. And if that’s not enough Tim Curry for you, the Blue Mouse has you covered with a late night 11:30 p.m. screening of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”

“Cassandro the Exotico!” – Nov. 3 at 1:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.

He’s been called the Liberace of lucha libre. “Cassandro the Exotico!” tells the story of lucha libre star and gay trailblazer Cassandro. This intimate documentary takes you into the world of lucha libre and behind the mask of one of the sport’s most flamboyant and acrobatic wrestlers.

“Wildwood” – Oct. 30 at 2 p.m., 4:50 p.m., 7:45 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 11:15 a.m., 2:20 p.m.; Nov. 1 at 11:15 a.m., 2 p.m., 4:50 p.m.; Nov. 2 at 1:25 p.m., 4:30 p.m.; Nov. 3 at 1:25 p.m., 4:10 p.m.; Nov. 4 at 1:35 p.m., 4:20 p.m., 7:10 p.m.; Nov. 5 at 1:35 p.m., 4:20 p.m.

From the same people who brought you “Coraline” comes “Wildwood,” a stop motion animation epic fantasy adventure where Prue McKeel goes on a desperate mission to save her baby brother from a forbidden forest. Magic and mischief abound in this highly anticipated family film.

“You Can See Everything” – Oct. 30 at 11:45 a.m., 3:15 p.m., 7:30 p.m.; Oct. 31 at 11:25 a.m., 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m.; Nov. 1 at 12:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 6:40 p.m.; Nov. 2 at 1:35 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:20 p.m.; Nov. 3 at 1:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:10 p.m.; Nov. 4 at 1:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 7:10 p.m.; Nov. 4-5 at 1:15 p.m., 4 p.m., 7 p.m.

Imagine a simple blood test that would flag any ailments you might have. That was the basic idea behind the company Theranos. Elizabeth Holmes, the founder, drummed up millions in venture capital, but the secret of Theranos was that it never even came close to working. Comedian Nathan Fielder works with documentarian Lance Oppenheim in uncovering just who Elizabeth Holmes is and what she’s about. The trailer for this documentary was so creepy that people are already making memes of it. Tickets are selling fast for this one.

Next week “The Cat in the Hat” comes back and Martin McDonagh returns with “Wild Horse Nine.”
