Sherrie has been a fixture in the Tacoma art and music scene since her relocation to Tacoma in 2007.
You probably know her as “Voxxy”, which is her performance name based on ‘Vox’ being short slang for vocals. And if you have ever seen her perform, you’ll understand why her stage name is all about her powerful voice.
Voxxy came to Tacoma from Phoenix specifically to inject herself into what she perceived as a thriving live music culture. She co-founded her first band, a bluesy southern rock band, and immediately started performing around Tacoma and surrounding areas.
She remembers The Weekly Volcano as an integral part being able to start networking her very first week in Tacoma. She was able to find open mics stages, and access which clubs were booking and what types of bands were being booked. She understands firsthand how vital a paper like The Volcano is to the local community and the Arts, Entertainment, and Small Business sectors of our beloved Tacoma and Puget Sound.
She went on to front other local original bands, including her current rock band ‘Polly Slanderous’ and also formed her very successful tribute to Janis Joplin, called ‘Janis Lives’ that performs internationally.
Voxxy was a founding member and participant of Tacoma's Speakeasy Art Cooperative that was voted a top 5 Art Gallery in Seattle's King 5 Evening Magazine Best In Western Washington, and readers choice for Best Art Parties in Tacoma's Weekly Volcano in 2009/10.
She was co-host on the award winning "The Northwest Convergence Zone" podcast from 2010-2015 which featured weekly interviews with local artists, musicians, and community members.
In 2014 Sherrie created the very popular Janis Joplin Tribute Band and musical production called "Janis Lives" where she performed locally and internationally for 10 years.
In 2023 Sherrie is still creating art and music, and performing on stages from Tacoma to the Virgin Islands. She brings a vast array of experience in Visual Content, Graphic Design and Layout, Marketing, Merchandising, and her insider knowledge of what our art and music scenes need from The Volcano. -

Content Creator: Rev. Adam McKinney has been writing about music, movies, theatre, and all of his pop culture preoccupations since 2009. In that time, he created the world's worst dating column; flew to Texas to cover the insanity of South By Southwest, and to New York to interview the Tacoma musicians who escaped to the big city; saw Fifty Shades of Grey in the theater, for Valentine's Day, with his mom; concocted homemade Four Loko to celebrate the end of the world; and spilled untold amounts of ink about just about every type of band you might see coming through the South Sound -- all for the pages of the Weekly Volcano. These days, he's up to much of the same, only slower.
