BY JACK CAMERON for WEEKLY VOLCANO 6/12/2026 |
This week at the Blue Mouse Theatre near North 26th and Proctor is much like last week at the Blue Mouse.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is playing for the second and final week at 3:45 p.m. and 7 p.m. from Friday, June 12, to Sunday, June 14, with a final chance to see it on the big screen Monday, June 15, at 7 p.m.
For you night owls, Saturday night at 11:30 p.m., the Blue Mouse is putting on its monthly showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Audience participation and cosplay are encouraged. If you haven’t gone yet, it’s a local rite of passage.
Across town, at Tacoma’s other independently owned and run movie theater, the Grand Cinema, it is continuing the runs of many movies from last week and premiering one of the most anticipated movies of the year.
Disclosure Day isn’t just a science-fiction movie. It’s an alien movie. It’s not just a science-fiction alien movie. It’s a science-fiction alien movie from Steven Spielberg. When he does alien movies, they’re Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, and War of the Worlds.
I spent last year watching all of Spielberg’s movies. To say I’m looking forward to Disclosure Day would be an understatement. The Grand has a 7 p.m. screening Thursday, June 11, with regular showings beginning Friday, June 12.
Friday, June 12, is also your next chance to catch the live audio-only adventure serial Spacies. This live performance in the style of Flash Gordon is a one-of-a-kind experience. The show starts at 7 p.m.
The Grand’s Tuesday Movie Series continues next week with the Women’s Adventure Film Tour. The 2026 program will highlight the resilience and creativity of individuals navigating the challenges of both the outer world and their own inner landscapes. You have two chances to catch the film tour, both on Tuesday, June 16, at 1:45 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Every Wednesday this month, the Grand is putting on its WednesGAYS film series. This week, it’s also incorporating Craft Night. The lights stay on for this event, so bring your crafts to work on while watching a screening of the legendary But I’m a Cheerleader. This classic of gay cinema is impossible to watch without a smile.
The Grand is continuing to show the piano tuner-turned-heist-man movie Tuner. If you prefer your heists more in your face, I Love Boosters is still playing and well worth your time as well.
Obsession, a movie where a man wishes a woman would love him more than anything and gets his wish, and Backrooms, a movie where a man investigates the liminal spaces inside his furniture store, are both low-budget movies that have made hundreds of millions of dollars. They’ve done this by being original and innovative. It’s no surprise that they’re continuing to play at the Grand.
Next week, the Blue Mouse has Toy Story 5.
All of these movies will be playing in Tacoma this week. Check schedule and movie times at Bluemousetheatre.com and Grandcinema.com.
