1st victim identified in double death on Pacific Ave
Details of a late night downtown Tacoma shooting last weekend are beginning to emerge with the release of the identity of one of the victims.
Elijah Dominick Hylton, 30, was one of two people who lost their lives in the gun violence incident that took place shortly after midnight Saturday night, in the early hours of Sunday, Oct. 4, according to the Pierce County medical examiner.
The shooting occurred at South Eighth Street and Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma’s nightlife district, where two adult men were found on the scene by police with life-threatening injuries. Officers performed lifesaving measures until the Tacoma Fire Department personnel arrived and pronounced both deceased, the Tacoma Police Department shared in a press release.
A third victim was discovered to have sought out medical attention for a gunshot wound as well.
Hylton had a warrant out for his arrest at the time of his death after being charged with first-degree murder on Jan. 31, 2023, in connection with the 2020 death of 25-year-old Ty Jenkins.
Jenkins was killed in the Emerald Queen Casino parking garage in what prosecutors allege was a revenge shooting due to rival gang membership. The U.S. Marshals Service put out a call for the public’s assistance in locating Hylton in the summer of 2025 but had not been able to locate him.
No motive or details of the cause of the recent altercation that led to multiple deaths have yet been released, but it is being investigated as a homicide.
KOMO News reported that business owners and residents have been advocating for more police presence due to violence and rowdy fights that are side effects of the active nightlife scene.
