This week we moseyed back up to Peaks and Pints in Proctor. As you may have noticed, we have reviewed a beer from every brewery in Tacoma. We’ve worked our way through a lot of great beers. Before I decided to start a new cycle and grab some more local beers, we went to Peaks and Pints to see what deliciousness they had on tap.
Last time we were at Peaks and Pints, we drank an excellent Vice beer. This week, they had no Tacoma beers on tap, so we reached for the Vice Saison. Peaks and Pints did have several great Belgian beers on tap, but as we generally write about Tacoma, I’ll just tell my friends about the delicious Belgian beers.
The Vice Saison came out in a 10-ounce tulip glass, and its appearance was cloudy yellow-orange, right in line with style guidelines, with a light white head. We’re off to a good start.
Saisons are a classic Belgian style that has a wide variety of flavors, and the classic style-defining beer is often dissimilar to most bottled saisons that you’ll find. Saison Dupont is a brilliant beer, delicious and clean and dry and peppery. And almost no one can make a beer like it.
The nose of this beer has a bit of that black pepper and hints of butter. It’s quite effervescent as well.
The first taste of the beer is fantastic. It’s a smash of butter with excellent amounts of pepper. There is also a hint of farmhouse at the end of the flavor profile, but it’s a great flavor match with the butter and pepper.
As I dig into the beer further, the mouthfeel shows some additional fruit flavors in this delicious saison. There is lemon and hints of citrus. It makes me wonder if my taste buds are switching up those lemon and butter flavors. The beer goes down smoothly and is a great beer to start a happy hour after a warm day. The higher carbonation level really helps.
Overall, this is another great beer from Vice. It is a great, easy drinker that’s complex and tasty, yet not so complex that you can’t just pound it in 15 minutes. It has the black pepper spiciness and dryness that we expect from a saison, with just the right amount of lemon.
Peaks and Pints has several Vice beers on tap and a whole wall of cans and bottles. Get yourself down there at the end of one of these hot days and sit in the big windows and watch the world walk by as the cool breeze wanders in.
