BY MATT STEVENS for WEEKLY VOLCANO 6/12/2026
Our intended review location was not open quite yet, so we’re excited for a future visit to Tacoma’s newest brewery. Keep an eye on this space for that future tasting.
Today, we ended up at Peaks & Pints in Proctor to partake in their generally wide local fare. I pulled the Dry-Hopped Saison from Vice. Vice is a quasi-local favorite down in Vancouver, Washington, that just won Peaks & Pints’ Tournament of Beer, voted on by the beer connoisseurs who frequent Peaks & Pints.
The appearance comes out beautiful: straw-colored and not cloudy, but not easy to see through. Beautiful-looking white head on the rather large tulip glass.
This saison has a rather subtle smell. The dry hopping is quite subdued. I get the smells of pepper phenols, but they are light. A great start to this beer. Saisons generally should not punch you in the mouth with their flavors. And if anything is too strong, then that’s a sign of a poorly made saison.
On the first sip, this beer nails the saison profile. Pepper phenols in the first sips, and the dry hops are there as well. Style guidelines indicate a saison should have a low to moderate hops profile. And the hops are definitely taking the way-back seat in our hypothetical minivan behind the pepper yeast esters and the clean, crisp malt.
Mouthfeel-wise, this beer is great. It’s not as dry as some saisons I’ve had and not quite as effervescent. If I’m going to nitpick, and this is very much nitpicking, it could be a little lighter and more carbonated.
Overall, it’s a great beer and an easy-to-drink saison. Grab one with a sandwich down at Peaks & Pints and watch the world go by in Proctor.
Peaks & Pints is at 3816 N. 26th St. in Tacoma.
