South Tacoma Way Turns Up the Volume for Memorial Day Weekend

Tacoma’s underground music scene has never needed permission to make noise, and this Memorial Day weekend, “Just Another Gig” returns to prove exactly why the city remains one of the Pacific Northwest’s most vital homes for hardcore music.

Known as JAG Fest among fans, the annual festival has evolved from a grassroots local gathering into one of the region’s most anticipated hardcore weekends. Set across Airport Tavern and Real Art Tacoma on South Tacoma Way, the 2026 edition brings together nationally respected heavy acts, rising underground bands, local vendors, and the independent spirit that has long defined Tacoma music culture.

This year’s lineup is led by hardcore legends Biohazard alongside boundary-pushing favorites Show Me the Body and Connecticut metalcore staples 100 Demons. Supporting acts, including BIB, Combust, Division of Mind, Ingrown, Scarab, and dozens more, round out a bill designed to pull longtime hardcore veterans and younger fans into the same crowded rooms, sweaty pits, and late-night conversations that have always fueled the scene.

The festival grew from Tacoma’s all-ages and DIY music community, with earlier editions rooted heavily in Real Art Tacoma, the nonprofit arts venue that has become essential to the city’s underground creative culture. For years, Real Art has given younger audiences a place to experience live music while helping local bands and touring acts connect directly with the community. Real Art Tacoma has built lasting impressions on the all-ages and DIY communities with internships, educational programs, and enthusiastic teamwork with the local scene.

Airport Tavern, now serving as the primary venue for the 2026 festival, has become one of Tacoma’s key homes for punk, hardcore, reggae, and alternative music, helping South Tacoma Way emerge as a major destination for independent live shows in the South Sound.

Festival weekend begins Friday, May 22, with a pre-party at Real Art Tacoma before the main event moves to Airport Tavern and its Music Hall for two full days of hardcore, crossover, and underground heavy music on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24.

Alongside headliners Biohazard, Show Me the Body, and 100 Demons, festivalgoers can expect performances from Combust, Division of Mind, Ingrown, Scarab, BIB, Bulldoze, and more. Organizers have not yet released exact set times, but programming is expected to run throughout the afternoon and evening both days.

The setting matters as much as the music.

Long known for its dive bars, tattoo shops, vintage stores, and blue-collar creative identity, South Tacoma Way has become a natural gathering place for Tacoma’s underground arts scene. During festival weekend, fans can spill from venues into nearby bars and late-night spots with different food options and other music options, creating an atmosphere that feels equal parts neighborhood block party and hardcore pilgrimage.

As Tacoma’s creative identity evolves, JAG Fest helps preserve the city’s reputation as a place where loud music, independent venues, and community still matter. For one weekend each spring, South Tacoma Way becomes the center of the Pacific Northwest hardcore scene, and for the people who call that scene home, it’s never “just another gig.”

The Real Art Tacoma pre-party is all-ages. Tickets can be found at realarttacoma.com.

Airport Tavern is offering two-day passes and single-day passes at airporttavern.com/calendar/.
